Sometimes listening to your body is so hard. You want to be in the gym, on a run, and working hard to continue your progress of achieving your goal. But part of the progress is taking a rest day. Your body needs that day off to repair tissue, replenish energy, prevent burnout, and decrease risk for injury. Though rest day doesn't mean you take the day off nutritionally.
Try setting up a weekly plan that includes a rest day. For example Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Lifting, Tuesday and Thursday - Cardio and your choice of Saturday or Sunday as your rest day and the other day a fitness class or easy run/walk. Keeping a plan can help keep yourself accountable.

Remember to: Respect your body. Fuel your body. Challenge your body. Move your body. And most of all, love your body.
This is a great post and a fantastic reminder for everyone that is physical active. I know a lot of times I go workout and do not give time for rest and I am sure it is hurting more than benefiting when I am too sore to even get in a good workout. This is also good to remember with injuries. You do not want to push your self through a workout with an injury that could get worst by doing the workout. It sounds like you have a set routine down that helps you get in your rest day. Thanks for the reminder about rest and I love your picture and last line!
ReplyDeleteSaw that picture and couldn't stop laughing!
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
What you said in this post is so true. Giving yourself a day to relax is definitely needed. I know sometimes I'm afraid to give myself an off day because then I won't want to start working out again. Working out every day could cause injuries which will then set you back. I love the picture you included!!
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one! I still struggle with that, rest day and then don't want to start working out again. But I try to remind myself of my why!
DeleteSo true! So many athletes try to do too much and actually end up hurting themselves and their progress. Without a rest day your body doesn't have time to let your muscles recover and rebuild. I also like the fact that you mentioned nutrition, such a huge part of health. It doesn't matter how hard your work, if you don't give your body what it needs you won't see results. Great post.
ReplyDeleteLove how you put it, if you don't give your body what it needs you won't see results!

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I agree that it's important for everyone to have at least one rest day. You don't want to have an intense workout everyday of the week with no breaks. This can cause injuries, or lack of gains physically. I also agree that if you give your body an off day, you shouldn't take an off day from nutrition. It's always important to keep good nutrition.
